Ranipuram

Ranipuram (Malayalam: റാണിപുരം) is a hill station in the Indian state of Kerala. Situated in the Vellarikundu taluk, Kasargod District, Ranipuram is 750 meters above sea level and 45 km from Kanhangad. It is known as "Ooty of Kerala". Ranipuram is adjacent to Kottencheri-Talakaveri mountain range and is a protected area on the Western Ghats of Kasargod. Until the 1970s, Ranipuram was known as Madathumala.

Kavvayi Backwaters

Kavvayi has been mentioned by name by significant global travelers, including  Marco Polo  1293AD,  Ibn Battuta  1342AD and Abdul Fida 1273AD. The island of Kavvayi was originally named  Kavvil Pattanam , but renamed by Sir William Hogan, the then  district collector  of the area. Kavvayi was the headquarters for an area of 125 square miles (320 km 2 ) which housed a large port and the magistrate court, including during  British East India Company  rule. It declined after the headquarters were moved to other parts of  Malabar . This island is famous for having a history of  zamindars

Kasaragod Beach

The Pallikere Beach ( 1 km from Bekal Fort): This enchanting beach offers a spectacular view of the fort and has ample facilities for recreation and relaxation. The Kappil Beach (6 km from Beakal Fort): Remote and secluded, this beach is fast becoming a major tourist attraction. The Kodi cliff nearby offers a panoramic view of the Arabian sea. Kanwatheertha Beach (3 km from Manjeswaram): A large swimming pool like formation of the sea on the vast beach is the main attraction.  

Bekal Fort

Shivappa Nayaka  of  Keladi  constructed the Bekal Fort in 1650 AD. During the  Perumal Age  Bekal was a part of Mahodayapuram. The Kodavalam inscription (Pullur, 7 km from Kanhangad) of Bhasakara Ravi II (the King of Mahodayapuram) illustrate the undisputed political sway of Mahodayapuram over this region. Following the political decline of Mahodayapuram Perumals by the 12th century AD, North Kerala including Bekal, came under the sovereignty of  Mushika  or  Kolathiri  or  Chirakkal  Royal Family (who were a secondary royal family at that point to the  Cheras ,  Pandyas  and  Cholas ).  The maritime importance of Bekal increased much under the Kolathiris and it became an important port town of  Malabar . In the olden days every royal palace was protected by a fort. The Bekal fort might have, therefore, existed even from early days of the Chirakkal Rajas.
