Calvary Mount

Calvary Mount nestled in the high ranges of Idduki district where the Great place of tourist interest in Kerala. It is located at a distance of about 12 kilometers away from Idduki and just 43 Kilometers form Greenwoods Resort, Thekkady and is a worth visiting tourist destination in the god’s own country.
One can trek towards the Calvary mount from the main road of Idduki and Kattapana and enjoy the panoramic view of the Idduki reservoir from the hill top. The verdant greenery and the cool refreshing air floating around the landscapes and surrounding touches the depth of your heart in no time. The blissful ambiance of the Calvary Mount is eye-catching. Visitors can even have the distant views of the herd of elephant way down the mountain and elephant swimming between the islets in the reservoir. Naranath Branthan  (The madman of  Naranam ) is a character in  Malayalam  folklore. He was considered to be a divine person, a  Mukhta  who pretended to be mad. His chief activity consisted of rolling a big stone up a hill and then letting it fall back down. Unlike  Sisyphus , he acted on his own volition rather than under the influence of a curse. There is a large statue of Naranath in Pattambi,  Palakkad  district of Kerala where he is believed to have lived. Naranathu was born as the son of  Vararuchi , the famous  astrologer  who adorned the court of  Vikrama . Naranathu was one among the twelve offsprings or the  Parayi petta panthirukulam (12 children born from the  Pariah  woman), of  Vararuchi  and was brought up in the  Naranathu Mangalathu Mana , situated at  Chethallur  in  Palakkad .
