Sargaalaya Arts and Crafts Village

Sargaalaya is a 20-acre (8.1 ha) arts and crafts village in Iringal, Kozhikode district, Kerala, India. It was established at a cost of around 15 crores on 19 February 2011 by The Kerala Tourism Department. It was inaugrated by the then Home and Tourism Minister, Mr Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) received the contract to manage the crafts village for a period of ten years.

The Kerala State Tourism award function is also held at the crafts village.Sargaalaya has over 60 stalls selling various ethnic crafts and it also houses The Crafts Design and Technology development centre, which provides training for craftsmen to learn new techniques in traditional handicrafts

Naranathu Brandan Hills

Naranath Branthan  (The madman of  Naranam ) is a character in  Malayalam  folklore. He was considered to be a divine person, a  Mukhta  who pretended to be mad. His chief activity consisted of rolling a big stone up a hill and then letting it fall back down. Unlike  Sisyphus , he acted on his own volition rather than under the influence of a curse. There is a large statue of Naranath in Pattambi,  Palakkad  district of Kerala where he is believed to have lived. Naranathu was born as the son of  Vararuchi , the famous  astrologer  who adorned the court of  Vikrama . Naranathu was one among the twelve offsprings or the  Parayi petta panthirukulam (12 children born from the  Pariah  woman), of  Vararuchi  and was brought up in the  Naranathu Mangalathu Mana , situated at  Chethallur  in  Palakkad .
